Interesting read on invasive Carp coming to the Great Lakes, and all sorts of other information on the Invasion of all sorts of Non-Native species to the Great Lakes.
Key Points...
1.) A new invasive specie is discovered every seven months.
2.) 500 or so ships per year enter the Great Lakes
3.) Also note the discussion of the economic impacts/shortfalls that the shipping industry has caused to the Great Lakes region. If it were to stop ships from entering it would cost $55 million a year, meanwhile invasive species are costing us $250 to $500 million per year to our region. Sorry Gerald- its another view point that hadn't crossed my mind until reading the article.
4.) The Invasive carp are seen 30 miles away from Lake Michigan.
