[glow=red,2,300]Club members[/glow].... Dec 31st is the deadline to put your entry in the Big Fish Contest box located at Grimsby Tackle. There's been some really big fish taken by members this year and I hope we get to reward those big catches. All it takes is to enter your fish.
Here's the entry form to print off, fill it out and drop it in the box. www.straitlineanglers.com/MembersOnly/Year_Long_Big_Fish/BigFishContestForm.pdf
We open the box on the 1st (New Years Day), - no late entries will be excepted.
[glow=green,2,300]How do you enter a fish...[/glow]
Have to be an active member by registering as a member by the March meeting, and the attending at least 3 of the 12 monthly meeting through out the calender year.
If you were fishing with another club member at the time, then the entry form with reference to the witness club member will suffice. Don't skimp on the information. Fill it in!
If you were fishing alone, then you need some extra verification. Don't skimp on the information. Fill it in! We also need a picture attached to the entry form and include a picture showing the fish on the scale and/or the measurements of Length and girth. Even if you have the weight of the fish, we need the length (nose to tip of the tail) and girth (widest point laterally) as well. We use the calculation of measurements to verify you are within reasonable weight.
The Big Fish Contest Awards are on the ten sportfish species of
Chinook Salmon
Coho Salmon
Rainbow Trout
Brown Trout
Lake Trout
Walleye
Northern Pike
Musky
Largemouth Bass
Smallmouth Bass
[glow=red,2,300]Awards[/glow]
An Award is made out to the leader in each specie category (not for second, third, or fourth...).
For an example the angler with the largest Smallmouth bass is presented with an Award that recognizes the angler caught the largest fish in that specie category. If the same angler also wins in one or more other species categories, then the award would also recognize all of the fish that were the biggest in their respective species categories. Awards are typically a plaque or printed paper that can be framed by the winner.
[glow=red,2,300]Prizes[/glow]
With 10 species categories there are 10 prizes (1 of 10 to be given to the Overall Big Fish Contest Winner at a higher worth value) to be handed out.
Only one person can take home one prize even though the person's performance in winning multiple species categories may be evident. If the angler has two or more winning fish (multiple largest in seperate species categories) they are only provided one prize. This leaves the other prize(s) available for someone else. Runner ups, second, third... may take the available prize instead, if the winner managed the largest fish and recieved a prize in another category.
It's great to see the prizes spread out. Fairness in spreading out the prizes are paramount and it is accomplished by the club committee. There are no favourites, prizes that are relocated to a runner up, third, fourth, fifth... in available species prize is done in descending order by weight of the fish entered.
Where an angler had won two or more seperate categories leaving one or more prizes available for another person the categories with the most entries are looked upon first as the greatest opportunity to move the prize down the list. Therefor the winner of the three biggest fish in three categories claims the prize in the category with the least number of entries.
If there is a tie, then date of entry would break all ties.
Prizes are in the form of fishing equipment like a Rod and/or reel.
The anglers that catch the biggest in any species category will be bringing home one award (that regognizes one or more of the biggest fish caught) and one prize. Runner-ups, second, third fourth... would only receive a prize and not an award but an angler could accumulate the most points and became the Overall Big Fish Contest Winner, but not have the largest fish in any one species category. In this case there maybe as many as 11 prizes handed out in the Big Fish Contest.
[glow=red,2,300]Overall Big Fish Contest Winner Prize[/glow]
The efforts of one angler that excels in a variety of species category is Awarded the Overall Big Fish Contest Winner and its an accumulation of points in placement of First, Second, and Third (15,10,5 respectfully) in the species categories. The lucky person to win this Award is also given a prize that is of a higher value then the individual species categories.
In the event of a tie in Overall Big Fish Winner points, the angler with the most entries would break the tie. If that does not break the tie, then the angler with the greatest variety of species entered, breaks the tie.
For an example, this is the 2007 Big Fish Contest Results.
